HIAS: WELCOME THE STRANGER – PROTECT THE REFUGEE
Wednesday, May 30
Refreshments: 7 pm Program: 7:30 – 9 pm
Over the last year, the number of refugees and displaced people across the world has grown to more than 65 million – more than any time in recorded history. Because of our history and our values, the Jewish people have a unique connection to these most vulnerable people. During this program, we’ll ground ourselves in a shared understanding of this crisis, explore the Jewish values that command us to welcome the stranger, and learn how to take action in support of refugees worldwide.
Rabbi Meyer, Director of Education and Community Engagement at HIAS, will facilitate the discussion. A graduate of Columbia University, Rabbi Meyer was ordained by HUC-JIR in New York. In June 2015, Rabbi Meyer joined HIAS where she develops educational materials, resources, and programs that educate American Jews about refugee issues, connecting the plight of contemporary refugees to Jewish values.
