Saturday Evening, September 16

This year, Sutton Place Synagogue will inaugurate the High Holiday season in a unique way, staging a reading of the award winning contemporary play THE GATES ARE CLOSING written by playwright and poet Merle Feld.

Preceding the traditional Selichot services, members of the congregation will take the parts of a varied and compelling group of Jews in synagogue on Yom Kippur as they grapple with issues of identity, meaning, repentance and forgiveness.

Join us as we open the gates for the High Holiday season and begin reflecting on our own past and dreaming about our future. This program will put us in the right mood for the Selichot Service, led by Rabbi Rachel Ain, Cantor Dov Keren and the Shirah Choir.

7:30 pm: Dessert Reception
8:00 pm: Program
Service follows at approximately 9:30 pm
