Shabbat Shalom from Rabbi Ain – March 17, 2017

Shabbat shalom! In this Torah portion, Ki Tissa, Moses stays with God on Mount Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights. There, he is given the 10 Commandments on stone tablets. Fearing Moses will never return, the Israelites turn to Aaron, who demands that everyone bring him their gold, so he can make a golden calf. When Moses comes down the mountain and sees the people dancing around this idol, he smashes the tablets on the ground. God punishes with a plague all the Israelites who were involved. Moses builds a tent to be his meeting place with God.
Kabbalat Shabbat services are this evening at 6:15 pm. Saturday morning services are at 9:15 am. Candle Lighting is at 6:47 pm.
Thought question: Why do you think that the Israelites so quickly turned away from God, and made a golden calf?

As the 2nd yahrzeit (anniversary) of his passing approaches, our community will gather together on the 8th day of Passover to remember Rabbi Allan Schranz. We will dedicate the introduction to the Yizkor service t his memory and unveil a plaque inscribed with his words on the lobby memorial wall. We will hear from some SPS members who were close to him as they briefly reflect on his life and legacy. The Yizkor prayers will immediately follow. This will take place on Tuesday, April 18th, on the last day of Passover, during services.
