Rabbi Feldman is the author of the book “Biblical Women Speak: Hearing Their Voices through New and Ancient Midrash” (JPS, 2023). She has authored chapters in several CCAR publications, including The Social Justice Torah Commentary, Moral Resistance and Spiritual Authority, and The Sacred Calling: Four Decades of Women in the Rabbinate, and she served as guest editor of CCAR Journals on the topics of Gender in Jewish Life and Pay Equity. Feldman is the Executive Director Emerita of Women of Reform Judaism. A Reform rabbi and lawyer, she was previously Director of the Commission on Social Action of Reform Judaism.
In her new book, Biblical Women Speak, Rabbi Marla Feldman employs midrash (interpretative techniques) to discover biblical women’s stories from a female point of view and provides insights beyond how ancient male scholars viewed them. Through this process, she offers insights for the modern world, creating an engaging invitation to enter biblical narratives, challenge conventional wisdom, and recalibrate the biblical stories and lessons through the lens of our own lives.
